I manipulate images.
My name is Camila Montero, I am a Costa Rican/Ecuadorian American visual artist and stop motion animator from Miami, FL. I am currently getting my B.F.A in Animation but my practice revolves around stop motion animation. My interests in architecture, painting, and theater drives my process and inspires my art direction. I take every project as an experiment and as an opportunity to learn new techniques, styles, and visual concepts trying to learn as much as I can from doing. My craft revolves around the physical, the material, the magical, and the horrifying. Re-imagining the materiality of objects through the plasticity of the stop motion medium. I remember and dismember familial stories, taking them apart and piecing them back together through the use of found objects, textures, and lighting.
My stop-motion animated films have screened at various festivals including BAMPFA, Love Lives in SF, Zest Film Fest, and Artist Television Access, and Adobe Books.
